I’ve been following a Paleo nutrition for the better part of a year now. I first got to know about it through Tim Ferriss recommending the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolff. I’m now doing an 8 week strict Paleo plan and loving it so far. I thought it would be difficult but like anything else, once you make a commitment it is easy. It’s always good to read inspiring stories like the one below about Sean and how he has pretty much beaten Type 1 Diabetes and doing Ironman competitions.

I’d known Erica since high school–she’s always been slim and athletic, and also happens to be one of the smartest people I know. She had recently started CrossFit and running marathons, both of which intrigued me as “good” paths toward “great” health (I would learn later this was naive, but more on that later). When we got to the discussion of diet, she told me that her diet was entirely grain-free. No bread. No pasta. She lived off the fat of the land, literally, to run marathons. I distinctly remember thinking that my friend of over fifteen years may have developed a severe mental condition. Maybe it was something in Seattle’s water supply. I felt increasingly nervous about her mental state when she told me of her plan next year to hunt and kill a wild pig, store it in an industrial meat locker in her “home office” and then cook the captured beast, hooves and all.

As we keep accelerating towards 2012, with abnormal weather patterns, unexplained events and increasing natural disasters, have you come to terms with your life? Tao Te Ching – Verse 11 – Living in the Void

It’s been a bit over a month since my last post as I’ve been very busy with my part time work, own business, and other activities. It feels like I’m getting into a routine now so I can get back to my personal and spiritual development.

Last post I left off at verse 9 and 10 of the Tao Te Ching. Today I’m continuing with the eleventh verse of the Tao Te Ching as interpreted by Dr. Wayne W Dyer. The eleventh verse describes the void that is found in everything and is that which makes up the essence of all things. The space or the emptiness that is imperceptible but still there. Just like a room is surrounded by walls it wouldn’t be anything without the space that is found in the centre, or the same goes for a clay pot or a vessel. All of them have a void which makes up the essence of what it is.

This is also true of people. We are made up of all kinds of molecules and layers upon layer of tissue. Seperate pieces of the body are not who we are. The imperceptible void, or our soul, like the space in a room, is our essence, who we are.

Being aware of this void and practicing our connectedness to it daily brings out the true essence of who we are. This can be done through many exercises but meditation is a very common practice to connect with our soul.

The ninth verse of the Tao Te Ching as interpreted by Dr. Wayne W Dyer explains the value in learning to live a humble life. Learning to stop and say enough is enough is they way to learn that having less is more. If you fill a cup without stopping it will run over with water. If you sharpen a knife too much it will become dull again. The same goes for material things. Learn to use the things you have and only acquire new things when it is needed, not when it is wanted. Accumulating too many things keeps your life cluttered and soon the things will own your life. You will be living in Ego, and everytime you want more you will inflate your Ego.

This also goes for our work. Spend enough time working so that you can stop and enjoy what you have done. If you keep working hard without stopping to enjoy what you have done you will work yourself into the ground. The Tao naturally lives humility. It creates perfection, then stops to enjoy it, it knows exactly how many birds are enough, how many trees are enough, no more, no less.
