It’s been a pretty quiet month so far and I’ve had plenty of time on my hands. I always find something interesting to read about on the net though. Ocassionally I like to head over to the Apple Quicktime website and check out the trailers of upcoming movies.

The cover for 2012 caught my eye as it has that mysteriousness about it. Just four digits on a plain black background. It’s a movie about the end of the world and it looks like it could be quite interesting when it comes out next year. What I found more interesting though was at the end of the trailer it says, “2012, search for it on google”. Like an obedient little puppy I brought up Google and started with “2012″.

And behold, I’ve brought the end of the world closer by searching for it… aaaah! No actually the first result was as expected, Wikipedia. I thought it was funny that Wikipedia has pages of information on future years and dates and what is expected to happen at that time. Years ago the staff at Wikipedia would have been killed for presuming to know the future, but it’s 2008 and the world SHOULD be rid of such persecution by now… *cough* sorry, just choking on politics, nasty stuff.

I found out that the end of the world is going to occur on the 21st December 2012. There seems to be a lot of civilizations and religions agreeing that 2012 would be a good year for this. I’m not going to get started on religion and how humanity has interpreted what any higher power has planned for us, but reading Wikipedia I was pointed to a website which has everything you need to know about December 21 2012. I was fascinated about one of the ways the end of the world has been calculated, which is by using the Mayan Calendar. Apparently the calendar just stops at 2012, and it was started in 3114 BC. I’ve spent the last couple of hours researching the Mayan calendar and it’s my subject of the day. There are some similarities with the Mayan “Tzolkin” calendar and Astrology. For example you can look up your birth date and see what sacred number, colour, life purpose, inner strength and god is associated with your birthday.

While I was reading through websites about 2012 it looks like some people think that the interpretation of the Mayan calendar hasn’t been done accurately, and that December 2012 might be bringing something else to the world, not necessarily the end of the world. The end of the world could be interpreted as the end of the world as we are currently living it, a new level of human evolution. It makes you think about what other ancient scriptures that may have been misinterpreted… religious scriptures perhaps? According to the Bible, God gave us free will, maybe so we could make our own interpretations of what the Bible says to each of us.

There’s a midnight snack for a quiet Sunday night, think on that one for a bit. :)

According to the Mayan calendar my Tzolkin birthday is coming up next sunday, the 30th November 2008. Let’s see what happens shall we?
